Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Discover Catholic Schools Week, which is celebrated from November 3 to November 9, is now a second annual celebration of Catholic education in our country, together with Celebrate Catholic Schools Week that will take place from January 31 to February 6, 2021. During both weeks, our schools will provide special activities for students, faculties, families, parishioners, and community members.
There are many reasons to choose a Catholic education. The National Catholic Education Association lists twelve, including offering instruction that combines Catholic faith and teachings with academic excellence, along with partnering with parents in the faith formation of their children.
We help our students succeed by setting high standards for student achievement, emphasizing moral development, and self-discipline. Our children learn respect of self and the value of service to others in order for them to be productive citizens and future leaders. We also cultivate a faculty and staff of people who are dedicated, caring and effective in promoting our mission. These tenets are embraced in our Catholic schools in the Diocese of Norwich.
Discover Catholic Schools Week is also a time to express my appreciation for all who help sustain our excellent Catholic schools. It is a time to thank all our administrators, teachers, staff, and parents, along with parishioners who are giving of their time, talent, and treasures. I thank all for their dedication to the children who are placed in our care.
I especially would like to acknowledge all those who worked overtime this past summer to prepare our schools to be safe havens against the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of their efforts our schools opened as scheduled and remain a source of pride under these most difficult times.
I hope that through these celebrations, all parents will consider providing the gift of a Catholic education to their children and the many benefits in doing so.
With God’s abundant blessings, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Bishop of Norwich
