Improvements!

Posted on December 06, 2018 in: General News, St. Joseph

Plans and preliminary work have begun for the opening up of a fully handicap accessible bathroom in our church building. The floor plan is in place; soon space near the Mass chapel will be opened up; and the necessary plumbing and décor changes will be in effect. We can’t promise this will be done before Christmas, but we will push to have this project done as soon as possible. We are eager to open the first floor of the convent building for coffee next Sunday, Dec. 16. We have contacted an architect, Ms. Johana Matthews to help us with the renovation. The first step, however, is for the Bethesaida Women’s S...

Las Posadas,

Posted on December 13, 2018 in: General News, St. Mary

As Christmas draws near, the celebration of Las Posadas, so popular in Mexico, calls our attention. For nine days before December 25th, people gather to re-enact the drama of Mary and Jo-seph journeying to Bethlehem and seeking a place (una posada) where their child could be born. The dialogue of closed doors and rejection eventually leads to an open door and to welcome.  If you would like to take part in Las Posadas, it is held at St.Mary Church this week each night at 6:30p.m.  May we use this holy season to welcome one another and to welcome all who come to the doors of our parishes seeking warmth, light...

It appears that our parishes are ready to take an important step towards unity. At the beginning of the coming year, our three separate parish pastoral councils will begin the important process of forming a single pastoral council for the cluster. Our parishes will maintain their own financ-es, and of course, their own finance councils. However, the pastoral concerns of each parish are increasingly the concerns of all our churches, and the key question is: how can we join forces and work together for the benefit of all? Increasingly, the strength of each parish is dependent on the success of our cluster. Let us pray and wo...

¡Unidad!

Posted on December 13, 2018 in: General News, St. Mary

Wednesday, December 26: The Feast of St. Stephen. How odd to celebrate the feast of the first Christian martyr during such a happy season! On the other hand, what does the coming of Christ’s light to a world darkened by sin bring if not contradiction, challenge and a share in Christ’s cross? Thursday, December 27: The Feast of St. John the Apostle. John’s gospel begins “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was god….and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” Friday, December 28, The Feast of the Holy Innocents.
