On the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, March 2,3, we will be distributing ricebowls and Lenten calendars to help guide your daily prayer, fasting and almsgiving during Lent. Rice-bowls are sponsored by Catholic Relief Services so that we can put our faith into action very con-cretely by encountering and sharing the needs of the world around us.
Visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities you support through this Lenten devotion.
Also on the Sunday before Lent begins, we will burn palms from last year’s Holy Week celebra-tion to make the ashes we will use as our sign of repentance. On Palm Sunday, we carried branches to proclaim Christ as our King and to declare our intention to follow Him into the mys-tery of his death and resurrection. It is fair to say that we have only partially lived out that inten-tion. So the ashes of repentance we put on our heads express repentance: we ask Our Lord’s for-giveness for our large and small betrayals and we resolve to begin again!
Palms will be burned with a short prayer after the following Masses:
@ St. Joseph: 4 p.m. Saturday vigil
@ St. Mary: 9:45 a.m.
@ Saints Peter and Paul: 10:00 a.m
