Fr. Albrecht and Fr. Washabaugh are announcing an invitation to everyone in our parish cluster to commit to intentional missionary discipleship by 1) committing to our own spiritual growth as disciples of our Lord Jesus, and 2) taking a specific role in the evangelizing mission of our church. Everyone will have plenty of time to think and pray about how he or she can be part of the church’s great mission in our time. While our priests have plenty of suggestions, you may have many that no one has yet identified. Please share your ideas!

A Roadmap for Our Three Parishes

To Become Missionary, United, and Vibrant

Principals from Pope Francis’ apostolic exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (2013)

A Church Which Goes Forth

Mere administration can no longer be enough. Throughout the world, let us be permanently in a state of mission (25) Evangelization is the task of the Church (111)

An Essential Renewal Which Cannot be Deferred

I dream of a “missionary option”, that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation. (27)

The Parish

The parish is the presence of the Church in a given territory, an environment for hearing God’s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration. In all its activities the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelizers. It is a community of communities, a sanctuary where the thirsty come to drink in the midst of their journey, and a center of constant missionary outreach.

Yes to the challenge of Missionary Spirituality (78)

No to Selfishness and Spiritual Sloth (81)

No to A Sterile Pessimism (84)

Yes to the New Relationships Brought by Christ (87)

No to Spiritual Worldliness (93)

No to Warring Among Ourselves (98)

Challenges exist to be overcome! Let us be realists, but without losing our joy, our boldness and our hope-filled commitment. Let us not allow ourselves to be robbed of missionary vigor! (109)

In our parish cluster, it is time for:

  • A Universal Call to Missionary Discipleship. During Lent 2019, our attention will be given to identi-fying, developing and employing each person's share in our mission. This Lent: a time for training and coor-dination.
  • Unity in mission while embracing our diversity: The time has come to replace our three separate Parish Pastoral Councils with a single Cluster Parish Council. We will maintain separate finances, and so, keep 3 individual parish finance councils. How to handle particular pastoral concerns of each parish? Peri-odic parish open meetings.
  • Development of staffing and leadership. We have long been seeking to hire a lay professional staff person to coordinate the evangelizing mission of our cluster. But evangelization requires faith formation. We have hope of finding that person before the coming fiscal year begins on July 1, 2019.
  • A Call to Stewardship of Time, Talent, and Treasure
