Dieufait Jean Pierre,Jozelaine and his son, Kensley. Dieufait has come from Haiti to care for his wife, Jozelaine who is, in a sense trapped in Backus Hospital. You can see their full story on our parish web – page. Joselaine has suffered an infection that put her in a coma for two months and developed into a life-threatening sepsis. Against the odds, Jozelaine recovered, but the sepsis has forced doctors to amputate her fingers and her legs below the knee. It has also left her without kidney function. Jozelaine has been in the hospital for two years now, primarily because, as an immigrant seeking asylum, she does not qualify for supportive health services.
