Lent is Coming!

Posted on January 31, 2020 in: General News

Ash Wednesday is on February 26, the solemn inauguration of our 40 day season of spiritual renewal. May this Lent be both comfort us and challenge us as we prepare to celebrate the Easter mysteries of Christ’s death and resurrection and the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. We accompany catechumens and members of the baptized who are completing their sacramental initiation.

With them, we study the Scriptures and our tradition. This Lent, we plan to have 6 weekly meetings of small prayer/study circles. Avail yourself of Scripture guides and spiritual reading that will be available, as well as evenings of reflection.

We look to live more simply. Lent is a time of fasting and abstinence. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory fast days. The Church obliges us to abstain from meat on Fridays in Lent. This is, of course, the minimum practice. How can you carry these practices into your regular routines to live more sustainably?

We renew our commitment to prayer. This means slowing down and simplifying so that we can talk with God and God with us. Daily Mass, visits to the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary, and Lenten Stations of the Cross are great prayer practices. So is participation in a group of fellow parishioners that will meet to pray together and deepen their faith. Plan to sign on to a group this Lent.
